Let us make a special effort to stop communicating with each other, so we can have some conversation.-Mark Twain
In my travels I have come to pass and learn the old adage
“If you don’t talk to people, then they won’t talk to you”
It’s a simple statement and yet somehow in the 21st century we all seem but strangers to each other. In instances where we may be squished up against others in an overcrowded bus, or shuffling through the same tourist attraction or casually waiting in the same line to ask the same question about the same thing; wouldn’t it be easier to converse then pull out your phone? And I’m not talking travel communication, as this is just that, it is a guide that every tourist has pawed over, memorized and then experienced.
Communication is the single greatest tool any traveller can use, why else does one travel? If it weren’t for communication how would you book your flights? Know what interested you? See the sights at the right times on the right days? What is shut….. you get my drift! But communication is just that, it is information for a purpose, it is of a use, a black and white guide that tells people information.
Where did the conversation go?
It baffles me that in this day and age people no longer plonk themselves down next to a complete stranger and strike up a conversation. Some of my best information, experiences, tips and tricks, insider advise and general life lessons have come from complete strangers. Not to mention friends from around the world.
Conversations are the essence by which some travellers especially those travelling solo live for. A conversation is both comforting, exciting, personal and heart warming no matter the subject, time of day or circumstance. We can all learn to put down the technology, close the guidebook, take out the earphones and move away from the tour group clique.
This section of my blog is to share with you the people I meet in my travels, the little snippets of knowledge I am passed, interesting facts and just general feel- good, genuine conversations. It is an appreciation of the intricacies of the human spirit and the lesson learnt from around the world
